April babies, you are lucky enough to have DIAMOND as your birthstone! The widely sought-after stone is a symbol of strength and internal fire. At Kasia Jewelry, we celebrate its diversity and the tiny miracles of nature that can be found in a single stone. Of course we are all for treating yourself to a special diamond ring, necklace, pair of earrings, or bracelet anytime - although April babies - you certainly have an excuse this month.
The word Diamond comes from the Greek word “adamas”, which means “invincible” or “unbreakable.” Please keep in mind that while Diamonds are the hardest gemstone (a 10 on Mohs Hardness Scale), of course they still require love and care to last for generations. (More on this here).
Traded in India as early as the 4th century BCE, Diamonds eventually became popular in Europe among the wealthy. The first Diamond engagement ring is known to have been given to Mary of Burgundy by Archduke Maximillian of Austria in 1477.
While today Diamonds are mined all over the world, it is estimated that 40% of rough Diamonds come from mines in Botswana, typically in the hot eastern regions of the country.
Diamonds are formed when carbon deposits are put under high pressure and temperature, and they are formed extremely deep below the earth’s surface - up to 125 miles below. Some stones can form within days, months, or even some millions of years to completely take shape.
With the increasing popularity of lab-grown diamonds, there is something so magical about the real thing, which is why we stick to using only natural stones. Our diamonds come from reputable sources that adhere to fair humanitarian mining practices, ensuring they are ethically sourced. Our Old Meets New Collection features striking antique Diamonds circa the 1920s, celebrating not only a piece of history, but a sustainable approach as well.
At Kasia Jewelry, we celebrate Salt & Pepper Diamonds (bits of carbon trapped in the stone, showcasing themselves through bits of gray and black “galaxy-like” patterns formed by black carbon inclusions), and Champagne Diamonds (neutral all the way to warm hued light to medium brown colors). For our colorless Diamond lovers, we have a wide array of styles for you as well, always taking into account that unique factor when sourcing this traditional variety. The infamous “4Cs” (color, cut, clarity, and carat) is the universal method for assessing the quality of any diamond. It is important to be aware of these 4 C’s, and to most importantly remember that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.
Although Diamond rings are typically associated with that special little ring worn on your left ring finger, we truly believe in the power of a strong Diamond right hand ring. A few of our favorites are Maverick Ring, Charlie Ring, Maribel Ring, Tyra Ring, Vilda Ring, Jude Ring, and Annica Ring.
